Marking its 80th year in 2024, the Raleigh Christmas Parade is the largest of its kind between Atlanta and Washington, D.C. This two-hour spectacle starts at 9:30 AM on November 23, 2024 and features marching bands, dancers, giant balloons, superheroes, and more as it winds through a 1.4-mile route in downtown Raleigh.

Held at Koka Booth Amphitheatre, this limited-engagement festival makes only a select number of stops nationwide and is brought to Cary in partnership with Tianyu Arts & Culture, Inc.
The event kicks off on November 16, 2024, and continues through January 12, 2025. Visitors can enjoy a magical stroll through hundreds of towering, vibrant lantern displays, creating a colorful and family-friendly holiday experience.
The lanterns highlight the rich beauty and craftsmanship of Chinese culture, with the art of lantern making tracing back over 2,000 years. These skills have been passed down through generations and are now closely associated with Chinese New Year celebrations. Each lantern at this year's festival was handcrafted and assembled by over 25 skilled artisans and performers from China, bringing their expertise to our community.
In total, the festival will feature approximately 2,500 lanterns illuminated by more than 15,000 LED lights, creating 50 unique displays. Among them, you can expect the return of the awe-inspiring Chinese Dragon, which last year was incorporated into the head of a racing dragon boat. This showstopper, a significant cultural symbol in China, weighs over 18,000 pounds, stretches longer than three school buses, and requires a crane and a 15-person crew just to install its head.
Beyond the lantern displays, the festival offers a vibrant cultural experience with nightly performances at 5:30, 6:30, 7:30, and 8:30 PM, featuring martial arts, traditional dance, acrobatics, drum shows, and more.

First Friday takes place on the first Friday of every month across Downtown Raleigh, offering a vibrant showcase of the city’s creative scene. Locals and visitors flock to the area to explore art galleries and studios that stay open late, featuring exhibits, artist talks, and hands-on activities. Restaurants and shops join the festivities with live music, pop-up markets, special deals, and more, making it an exciting evening for all.
When I moved to Raleigh in 2017, my literal first Friday in town, I accidentally found myself at the Frist Friday of July in 2017 and have had a soft spot for this event ever since.

I was fortunate enough to attend the dress rehearsal for Carolina Ballet’s Jekyll & Hyde and was thoroughly impressed and entertained. Though Halloween may have passed, we can still enjoy Spooky Season into November, right? This is a great limited-time show that I would recommend to anyone!
